Good nutrition

Just as people eat a healthy diet and may supplement daily with vitamins and minerals for human nutrition, livestock producers balance their animals' rations to ensure a healthy diet. To do this, producers test feeds and then match the amount of nutrients in the feed to the animal's nutritional needs. The National Research Council publishes books on the nutritional requirements of various species. These books contain tables of nutritional requirements that illustrate animals of different ages and their production status. 

Different production states, such as breeding, pregnancy, milk production, animal growth and performance, have different requirements.
